Jade, for this AU, would’ve been born with a pretty difficult to control power that intensifies with her emotions.  When she could properly hold a weapon was taught how to fight, and built her own weapon with lightning capabilities to help control her powers.  The excess Lightning is expended through the blade itself.  

Eventually, a day will come when she won’t need the swords to restrain herself.
